The difference between ISO 9001 and ISO/IEC 17025 Accredited Laboratory

ISO 9001 certification does not ensure technical competence and validity ISO/IEC 17025 should not be confused with the quality management standard ISO 9001. The latter is the generic standard for quality management systems applicable to all organisations irrespective of type, size, product or service provided. It does not require evaluation of the technical competence of a calibration laboratory. ISO 9001 should not be regarded as an ‘acceptable’ alternative to ISO/IEC 17025. This is because with certification to ISO 9001 the emphasis is on establishing an organisations compliance with requirements for a quality management system, it does not contain technical requirements for personnel and operations. In other words, you do not have assurance that the calibrations are accurate.

Identifying a UKAS accredited ISO/IEC 17025 laboratory is simple, each UKAS accredited calibration laboratory is permitted to display the National Accreditation calibration symbol. Below is the identification for CHE Metrology Ltd.

We support most makes of CMM’s and having some of the longest gauges in the UK can normally satisfy the ISO10360-2 longest diagonal requirements without any problems; whether it be a Bridge CMM, Horizontal Arm.
We are specialists in coordinate measuring machine overhaul, relocation and retrofits.
Legacy system support is a strong point for us and we carry a vast selection of legacy parts, some refurbished second user parts, newly sourced or manufactured by and for CHE. Alongside the legacy support, we also offer full support for Renishaw products including probing equipment, styli and CMM controllers.
We have full support for ‘Aberlink Innovative Metrology’ software to retrofit any make of CMM. See retrofit section.
We are a Business Partner to ‘Carl Zeiss Industrial Metrology’ and can offer Hardware/Software retrofits to ‘Non-Zeiss’ CMM’s. See retrofit section.
